Duration:
9 h

Difficulty:
High.

Departures:
October to April

We meet our trekking guide at the designated meeting point, from where we will travel by vehicle to the trailhead at the Río Eléctrico bridge. This route offers a more engaging experience, allowing us to avoid retracing our steps. We begin our hike through a forest of *ñire* (southern beech) trees, ascending gradually until we reach the Piedras Blancas Glacier viewpoint. Here, we pause to admire this beautiful hanging glacier—a textbook example of glacial features, complete with cascading seracs, lateral moraines, and a glacial lagoon.

Continuing through the forest, we pass by the Poincenot campsite before arriving at Río Blanco, a base camp often used by climbers. We take a short break here before tackling the most challenging ascent of the day, leading us to Laguna de los Tres. Before us stands the majestic Fitz Roy, with the Los Tres Glacier and its lagoon nestled at the foot of this imposing granite mountain. The sheer scale of the landscape puts the human experience into perspective, highlighting our smallness in the face of nature.

At Laguna de los Tres, there will be time to rest, enjoy lunch, and take in one of Patagonia’s most iconic vistas.

On our return journey, we traverse a diverse landscape, accompanied by crystal-clear streams and small cascades. Along the way, we also visit Laguna Capri.

Upon arriving back in El Chaltén after an exhilarating day, why not unwind in the village with a delicious craft beer, a hot chocolate paired with waffles, or some homemade cake? We will have 45 minutes to recharge before beginning the return trip to El Calafate.
