Bus transfer with boat trip and trekking, visiting the northern area of Los Glaciares National Park and the Lago del Desierto Provincial Reserve from El Chaltén. Discover and experience the Vespignani Glacier with different trekking options. This excursion must be done with a high-mountain guide.

The challenging nature of the Blue Trail makes this activity unsuitable for self-guided hikes.

We depart from our meeting point in El Chaltén, traveling the 37 km to Lago del Desierto along a beautiful gravel road, following the Río de las Vueltas.

During the journey, we’ll share important information about the area and make stops at scenic viewpoints. Then, from the Punta Sur Pier, we’ll sail for about 30 minutes, catching glimpses of the Huemul and Crestón Glaciers, before disembarking at the Gran Glaciar Vespignani, located in the central part of the lake. Once there, under the supervision of an activity leader for your safety, you’ll have 4 hours to choose from exploring all or some of the FOUR trails offered for this tour, all perfectly marked in the area, according to your desired level of difficulty and effort.

After a farewell chocolate treat, we’ll board the boat back to the Punta Sur Pier. At the scheduled time, the bus will take us back to El Chaltén, where our adventure concludes.

Trails in the G. Vespignani Area

  • The Blue Trail is the most demanding, with an elevation gain of 535 meters over 3 km, allowing us to reach the “Doctor’s Lookout” in two hours; Without a doubt, the best trail to a high-altitude natural balcony to fully appreciate the immensity of a great glacier. The Red Trail, with an elevation gain of 200 meters and a length of 2 km, allows us to reach the foot of the glacier in one hour at a leisurely pace, plus an incredible high-altitude view of the north face of Mount Fitz Roy.
  • The Yellow Trail, with an elevation gain of only 50 meters over 1 km, takes us on a gentle slope in 30 minutes to a prominent panoramic viewpoint overlooking the glacier.
  • The Green Trail, as an option or complement to the other trails, is an interpretive walk with no elevation gain, only 800 meters in total length, which, always within the wooded and coastal area, offers its own viewpoint of the Great Glacier.
